Played, not programmed
Ghost notes, flams, and dynamics land where I played them, captured at the drumhead in the same pass as the cymbals, not recovered from bleed by a trigger plugin later.
Send a rough mix and whatever references you have. I learn the song, play it on my hybrid kit, and send back a take that drops into your session.
From $250 a song, delivered in five business days.
For a breakdown of my hybrid kit, the mics, preamps, triggers, and cymbal collection, see my Studio Gear
On my kit, quiet mesh heads keep the shell volume low in the cymbal mics. The cymbals come back as audio. The kick, snare, and toms come back as a MIDI performance, so those sounds are still yours to choose after the take.
Miking shells and a room is most of the setup time in a drum session, and on the records I played on, much of that work ended up reshaped or replaced with samples anyway. Sampled cymbals still sound like samples to me, so I mic the cymbals and hi-hats and track MIDI for the shells.

Drum libraries like Addictive Drums 2 and Steven Slate Drums 5 are multi-mic recordings of real kits in real studios. Choosing one is a mix decision, and it stays reversible.
Wash, decay, cymbal interaction, and hi-hat articulation. Those are the tracks I record with mics. I’ve tried a lot of overhead mics with only cymbals in front of them, and the WA-84 small-diaphragm condensers have been the best fit for that job.
Each session below is laid out the way it lands in your DAW: four acoustic cymbal tracks and shell MIDI from one live pass. Solo the hi-hat, mute the overheads, switch sessions, or change the shell kit while it plays. The performance stays the same. Nothing here is glued together yet. EQ, compression, a shared reverb, and side-chain moves are what pull the cymbals and the shells into one kit, and those calls stay yours.
The cymbals on the rock take are Zildjian K Sweets, recorded straight through the API 3124V preamp. The shell sounds come from stock Addictive Drums 2 presets driven by the unedited, unquantized MIDI. I deliver that MIDI with every session, so you can use the drum library you already have or choose the sounds that fit the song.

I learned how a session runs early in my career, working with major-label producers and engineers in big studios, the ones in the credits below. I run my own sessions the same way. You can direct the takes over video, or send me a rough mix and let me make the calls. I’m comfortable playing to a click and reading charts, so if you have a tempo map or written part, even better.
Everything lines up from bar 1, with no master-bus processing.
Every file starts at bar 1 and runs the same length, so the whole folder drops in lined up. WAVs are 24-bit at your session’s sample rate.

That folder is downloadable, built from the rock session in the player above. It adds a reference shell print and a README with the tempo and note mapping.
Drop it in and point the MIDI at your own drum library.

I can develop the beat, vibe, and arrangement around what the song wants, re-create a programmed part note for note, or work anywhere between those two approaches.
Send what you have: a rough mix, any reference tracks, and production notes. Charts, written parts, and tempo maps are all welcome.
We’ll confirm the arrangement, deadline, session format, delivery files, and included revisions before I reserve the tracking time.
Specific ideas about pocket, dynamics, cymbals, or shell sounds are welcome.
If there is a programmed drum part, we’ll confirm whether I should follow it exactly or use it as a reference.
If you want room to write your own fill, I can play the groove with the cymbal bed open where the fill would sit, and leave the shells to you.
I track the kit as one instrument, in full passes rather than punched-together pieces.
You can direct the session live over video, share notes between passes, or review the takes I send.
Once we choose the performance, I prepare the agreed files. The remaining balance is due on approval.
Everything is checked for alignment and delivered with the file names and starting point we confirmed.

The performance, delivered as cymbal tracks and shell MIDI.
$350per song
The performance files, with the shell sounds chosen and printed for the song.
From $550per song
You direct the takes live, or run the session from your own room.
Every tier includes the raw MIDI performance. It is played, not converted from audio after the fact. If you have a click or a tempo map, I’ll follow it. If the song moves or was never cut to one, I play to your recording. Charts are welcome. These published rates cover independent remote releases. Label, commercial, union, sync, and fully acoustic studio sessions are quoted to the project.
Shakers, tambourine, and hand percussion layered over the kit.

Ongoing work and established client rates are confirmed directly. Tell me how many songs you have and I’ll put a number together.
If you want to be in the room while I track, or the song wants a fully acoustic kit, both are on the table.
On “Gradually, Then Suddenly” for Jared Is Fine, producer and engineer Wayne Silver controlled the Pro Tools session on my studio computer from The Ice Plant in Long Island City while Jared directed the takes over FaceTime. I was at the kit in Kennett Square.
It ran like a normal session with a longer headphone cable.
When the record calls for acoustic shells, room mics, and the sound of a larger tracking space, I can join you at the studio you want to use and record the kit there.
These sessions are quoted as a day rate plus studio costs and travel. I’m based in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, about two hours from rooms in New York City, Philadelphia, Wilmington, Baltimore, Washington, and Northern Virginia. I’ll travel farther when the gig is right.

You can give me as much direction as you want on the part and the sound.
I’d like to hear where the song is now and what you want the drums to change. We can talk through scope, schedule, and next steps from there.
